What kind of dog should I get?

I have no idea about the different races and need some help for a dog. I need one who is caring, faithful, easy to train. We need to be good with children for a family dog. It can be any size, but not one of those dogs people put in their handbags, as I find this ridiculous. I also want one that is pretty as I find some types such as Bull Terriers unsightly (no offense anyone with one). Some days, no one is home for 6-8 hours, so you can make a difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

There are plenty of good races. For a dog who first think or Golden Labs are great! Especially for the family. Boxers are, but as a * Hug * what it means to be not to jump that train children. Dachshunds problems not b / c they can be jealous of children, shihtzus are good, but can require a lot of preparation, poodle mix can be good because they shed. Boston Terrier may be ugly to you, but is very kind, smart and small. Chihuahua are not good for young children, but rather for more than 8 or 9 and do not know how to remove and put the dogs. If you leave a dog missing for 6-8 hours, I would get a building let in not carrying large for use in the bathroom, unless they are still very young.
